Wavus thanks Kirstie, Welcomes Kate

With great excitement, Kieve Wavus Education is announcing Kate Kaplan as the next Director of Wavus Camp for Girls. After five wonderful years as Director at Wavus, Kirstie Truluck is passing the torch to Kate. Kirstie and Kate have worked closely together since Kirstie’s arrival at Wavus in 2015, and Kirstie is ready to support Kate through this leadership transition at Wavus. Kirstie will forever remain a treasured friend and confidant for the Wavus family.

Kate arrived at Wavus more than 10 years ago as a counselor during her college years. She went on to run Wavus’ wilderness tripping program before becoming the Program Director in 2015 and served steadfast in that critical role through last summer. Kate will join KWE year-round after spending the past seven years at McDonogh School in Baltimore where she taught middle school social studies, was the team leader for the seventh grade faculty, and was the head coach of the girls’ varsity and junior varsity cross country and track teams. Kate earned her master’s degree in education from Johns Hopkins University in 2020. Kate and her husband, Sam, met at camp and were married here in 2018. They are moving to Maine this spring before the arrival of their first child in June!

Wavus and the whole KWE community look forward to celebrating these milestones- thanking Kirstie for her lasting contributions and welcoming Kate as we ramp up for Wavus’ 100th anniversary in 2022.
